Devoted to intercollegiate pure research in the Quadrivium in Cambridge, UK
An independent research institute for classical education in the mathematical and physical sciences.
Athanasian Hall is an interdisciplinary research institute devoted to the study of pure sciences (including mathematics) from a classical perspective. Faculty include philosophers of science, mathematicians, physicists, and cosmologists. Students at any affiliate institute of the University of Cambridge may apply for specialist research support in the composition of a PhD or in the provision of the triposes in mathematics, physics, or philosophy thereof. Tutorial services for basic courses are not available, and only postgraduate-level provision is offered. Services are free of charge, but admittance and affiliation are highly competitive.
We offer advanced seminars and colloquia in the following fields: (1). Classical Pure Mathematics; (2). Relativistic Cosmology of Nonstandard perturbed gravity schemes; (3). Formal Logic, Lambda Calculus, Recursion Theory, and Proof Theory; (4). History, Philosophy, and Methodology of the mathematical and physical sciences. See our academic journal by clicking the button below.
Fellows are selected on a 3-year basis for excellence in research. The typical fellow is a mathematician, physicist, or philosopher with some affiliation to a UK university that has a tradition of excellence in one or more of these fields. Selection is by nomination of an existing fellow and is determined by presumed or demonstrated ability to conduct original research in the Quadrivium.
