maths research in the classical tradition

PhD Matriculants at the University of Cambridge

Enrolled students at any Cambridge college who have been accepted for a PhD in Mathematics, Cosmology, Logic, or Philosophy of the above may apply on a competitive basis for dissertation assistance and rigorous external examination. Specialisms not listed will only be considered if adequate supervision can be obtained. There is no fee for this service. There is no taught component to this supervision, and such students are not fellows of Athanasian Hall unless accepted via the traditional means.

Postbaccalaureate PgDip in Mathematics

Baccalaureate graduates with a BA of standard 2:1 or above in any field may apply to a specific faculty member for tuition on the London School of Economics (LSE) PgDip in Mathematics. Reading modules include Algebraic Topology, Geometry of Groups, Real & Complex Analysis, Theoretical Physics, Game Theory, and others. Application to London is separate, but fellows may provide recommendations to London at their discretion. Faculty will generally only accept applicants with a standing offer or reasonable chance of admission to Cambridge for a PhD-level qualification in Mathematics, Physics, Philosophy, or Logic. This service also incurs no fee, but it is strictly at the discretion of the individual faculty member and is not granted as a matter of custom. Petitioners accepted by a fellow for tuition are in no wise affiliated with Athanasian Hall or the University of Cambridge unless such petitioners apply and are accepted to either route via traditional means.

Senior fellows by courtesy are member lecturers of the UK MAGIC Consortium. Their lectures carry ECTS upon completion of the summative exam set by each lecturer. Fellows, postdoctoral scholars, and faculty members may be charged a nominal fee by MAGIC to attend lectures or receive ECTS. This fee and all other matters of administration of MAGIC are at the sole discretion of the officers of the participating universities.

Athanasian Hall is a Quadrivium research institution, and is not involved in any way with the instruction of students. It is not a member of the MAGIC Consortium or the Isaac Newton Institute, but nominates fellows for such posts and requires comparable attainments. Individuals desiring instruction should in any instance apply via UCAS to the University of Cambridge Mathematical Institute or to the relevant postgraduate taught course authority at the desired college of affiliation.
